The Hudson Bay Camp Axe head pattern is believed to have originated in the Biscayan area of Northern Spain and was first used in North America as a trading piece along the fur trade routes of Canada, hence the name. It is a shape and size ideal for light splitting, chopping, camping, hunting or hiking expedition. This axe comes with an American Hickory handle, which is short enough to carry easily in the woods, but long enough to give you decent swinging power. Eye section is dried to below 10% moisture content to minimize shrinkage and help prevent loosening. Hafted high and proud. The axe head is drop forged and tempered to Rc 48-55 which exceeds ANSI standards. The poll and eye walls are not hardened and remain in the as forged condition. Hand sharpened, tapered bit for cutting and light splitting. Forged tool steel head is hydraulically seated onto handle and secured with a traditional double wedge system. Made in USA.
